The tarent-doctor document generator

For the Bundesjustizministerium, a platform and office independent solution was developed for the creation of documents (fair copies and drafts). As a basis, our product tarent-doctor was used. Within the scope of a pilot migration project, and existing solution should be ported in such a way that it could be supported by both Word and StarOffice/OpenOffice.org. Both Linux (Debian) and Windows were to be used as operating systems. Through the architecture of tarent-doctor, the application logic can be developed completely separate from the document creation.

The solution can thus now operate on a common code basis of both systems. This gives the public offices or companies using the solution the advantage of having more independence in the choice of office products and operating systems. Through this concept, investments in specialized applications are better protected in case of changes in the application environment.

tarent-octopus Web service platform

For the SBK, we have integrated our service infrastructure solution into the various application systems in use as a centralized interface for communication. Here, tarent-broker provides the classic EAI functionality. Our application server, tarent-octopus, acts as a basis for the highly scalable application infrastructure. CRM solution for the management of insured persons High-quality management of insured persons is a special feature of our CRM solution created for the SBK. It supports the clerks by integrating the relevant data and activities for the insured person into a main view.

Business process and workflow platform

Our business process and workflow platform provides IT support of the business processes via a standardized process service. This also enables the mapping of cross-system processes, as well as a dynamic adaptation to the special requirements of a health insurance company.

Form and individual letter archiving

Administrations work in a document-oriented manner. A seamless integration into an archive is thus a main requirement. Our form and individual letter archiving integrates office functions, CRM, and archive in such a way that the user has easy access to secure, legally compliant archiving without additional work.

Internet, intranet, and extranet conception

The objective of the EBIS project was the conception of the intranet and extranet of the Siemens Betriebskrankenkasse. From the basic requirements to the detailed process description, the conditions for the software landscape in a health insurance company were worked out. The execution of the projects according to the V-Model standards was an important aspect of this project, which was executed in intensive cooperation with the customer. The comprehensive results could thus be represented in a structured, efficiently usable manner. Our tasks in this project were as follows:

GEPRIS relaunch – dynamic view of more than 63,000 sponsored projects

The main task of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) is the sponsoring of research projects at universities and other research facilities. GEPRIS is the centralized information system of the DFG for sponsored projects. It offers the world of science and interested members of the public the opportunities to obtain information on the projects currently sponsored by the DFG quickly and easily.

Clear access to specialized complexity

DFG commissioned tarent GmbH with the conception and realization of the relaunch of the GEPRIS information platform. The objective of the renewal was the migration to a performant, easily maintainable solution that adequately maps the specialized complexity of the existing network of sponsoring methods, research facilities, and research programs. Through the exact analysis of the specialized requirements and use of a dynamic Web service solution strategy, the complex network of relationships can be developed clearly. The solution of tarent GmbH is convincing due to its simplicity, future-proofness, and strong integration into the existing IT systems.

tarent software: open interfaces and standards

What made the DFG decide to commission tarent GmbH with the realization of GEPRIS was the standard-based SOA technology that has already proven itself in many tarent projects. It let us integrate GEPRIS into the existing IT systems seamlessly. The expenses for the maintenance of the system and the data have been reduced drastically for the DFG. With the open interfaces and standards used, the DFG is also prepared for future technological challenges. Through the use of proven, efficient Open Source products as the basic components of a solution that has been adapted to the needs of the customer to a high degree, tarent GmbH was able to combine efficiency with performance at an attractive price while achieving a high degree of technical transparently by revealing the GEPRIS source code under the GPL. This strategy lastingly strengthened the customer's trust in tarent GmbH and its Open Source products.

tarent-contact: The software solution for political communication

The tarent-contact communication solution is used by the Bündnis90/die Grünen (www.gruene-bundestag.de) faction in the Bundestag, Germany's parliament, because it provides excellent support for work with very large address stocks. The creation, management, and sending of post and e-mail distribution lists is easy and uncomplicated with tarent-contact, even in case of more than 10,000 addressees. The updating and structuring of large address stocks can be mastered easily because the structure of the content and organization of the contacts can be clearly visualized.

Address distribution list: dynamic adaptation to the target group

For the Bundestag faction, tarent-contact is an ideal solution because this address management system permits excellent categorization of the contacts. Using these freely selectable and adaptable categories, target groups can be filtered dynamically from the address stocks. In the process, content features, roles, organizations, postal codes, and other categories are used for the address filter in any combination. This dynamic distribution list is available for shipping as a form letter or e-mail with individual addressing. At the BSI, tarent-doctor (software for the automatic generation of documents) succeeded an old application implemented as a Word macro application for the creation of decrees. Within the context of the BSI, the interface was adapted to its requirements to be able to map the generation of templates.

Group calendar

For the BSI, the functionality of the MS Exchange communication platform was expanded and adapted to the requirements of the customer. In addition, we created an application for support in organization-wide scheduling.

More than just a software solution

But not only the software alone make tarent-contact a success for the Ministry. To manage contacts successfully, the content has to be just right as well. In an everyday life characterized by a flood of information, it is important for the respective topic to reach the right addressees, whether by phone, post, fax, or e-mail. For the Bundesumweltministerium, tarent GmbH as a service provider also delivered the content: in this case, more than 10,000 individual data sets tailored to the customer were specifically researched and categorized for their later use in tarent-contact. The address, telephone number, and e-mail address were recorded, as well as the title and job of the respective person. In addition, the data was compared with previously existing data material.

Bundesamt für Naturschutz (German Federal Office for Environmental Protection)

LEPIDAT

Our task was the redesign of an application for the management of data on the butterfly population. Using the application, employees of the BfN, interested citizens, and scientists can access information on butterflies. The Bundesamt für Umwelt und Naturschutz (BfN) operates LEPIDAT for the habitat and endangerment analysis of butterflies.

Due the continued pollution of the environment, more and more butterfly species in Germany are in acute danger of extinction. To deal with this danger, a deep knowledge of the species and their connection to certain plants and habitats is important. In this important matter, tarent GmbH was able to support the BfN in the implementation of the complex application and its successful launch.

GenTG

In the BfN, the management and processing of the applications for the putting into circulation and approval of genetically engineered plants is performed using software we developed. The application used there is precisely adapted to the special requirements. Not only addresses are managed, but also incoming mail, studies, and areas of release, including the integration of a geo-data system. The application is characterized by flexible search functions and a dynamic linkage of the individual partial areas of the process. In this highly interesting project, we not only proved the quality of our requirement analysis, but also gained additional knowledge in the areas of politics and administration technology.

Consulting on a content management system

In the consulting project for the BfN, the boundary conditions created by BundOnline 2005 were in the foreground. The concrete tasks in this project were as follows:

  • Consulting for the selection and implementation of a content management system.
  • Study for the realization of information databases in the Internet.
  • Analysis of the existing applications
  • Recommendation of a software architecture

The requirements determined in SAGA (Standards und Architekturen für eGovernment-Anwendungen (Standards and Architectures for eGovernment Applications)) were taken into special consideration as a guideline for the software architecture. SAGA is published by the Koordinierungs- und Beratungsstelle der Bundesregierung für Informationstechnik in der Bundesverwaltung (KBSt) (Office for the Coordination and Consulting of the Federal Government for Information Technology in Government Administration).

For the Auswärtiges Amt, tarent GmbH developed an event management software that is used in all German embassies and consulates for the organization and holding of events and receptions according to protocol. Event-Management-Software: veraweb

The application is characterized by its high flexibility and simple adaptability. In addition to comprehensive address management, participants can be organized and addressed in various roles, ranks according to protocol, and languages. Invitation lists, e-mail distribution lists, acceptances and refusals, successors, and a number of additional organizational features let the respective events be managed efficiently and without redundancy.

A main requirement on the software is a high degree of security and transparency. The application was realized with a service-oriented architecture (SOA). Data retention takes place on the services of the respective embassy or consulate and is synchronized regularly with the data retention system of the Auswärtiges Amts in Germany. The highly confidential data is communicated using a SINA box with state-of-the-art encoding technology.
