On the first weekend of March, the qualification match for the RoboCup German Open in April in Hannover, where IndieLiberty started again, took place at Nürburgring. After a very good start, the team could assert itself against their competitors, in spite of technical difficulties, and came in first in the competiotion in the category RoboRescue Secondary.
On the technical hand the team made great progress. They were the only ones out of 18 teams that managed to develop a working system for a ramp and the following area without a guideline (red zone). Due to that, the team gained the clear leadership in the first run. Unfortuantely, the lead was decreased in the second, deciding run, because the ramp sensor broke down. Therefore, they needed to stop this run, what caused great losses in the valuation. However, the remarkeable lead from the first run saved the team, so that they won the competition with the tiny lead of two points.
On this video, that was created on the competition, the problem on the ramp can be seen. The robot runs at first without the ramp program. After intervening, it recognizes the ramp and makes it to go to the red zone program.
The team is excited about their success and hopes to stand out against their competitors and to qualify for the RoboCup world championship in Suzhou, China.
Congratulations to the team and good luck in Hannover!

Together with partners, IBM offers its customers a complete spectrums of products with advanced information technology: from hardware, software, services, and complex application solutions to outsourcing projects and offers for further education. With a focus on innovation, IBM equips its customers for future challenges and quickly changing market requirements.
For years, IBM has seen Linux as an operating system with great market potential. It supports Linux solutions and gets involved in their sales and distribution. In the meantime, IBM has a 30 percent worldwide turnover share in Linux servers in comparison with the market leaders. IBM achieves about a third of this turnover in agreements with business partners.
To be able to offer our customers a wide product portfolio with affordable conditions, tarent has been an IBM Business Partner since March 2007.
Intersystems The Caché product of Intersystems, which permits a fast transaction processing by the internal architecture, has proven itself to us in practice. Intersystems likes to call its Caché database system "postrelational" to express that it is an evolutionary further development of relational DBMSes. This system is particularly wide-spread in the health industry. Technically, Caché has many advantages: During work with a Caché OODBMS, the application layer based on it can work with instances of classes saved in the database using "proxy objects"; for example, it can change the values of attributes or call self-defined methods for these objects, which are then executed in the addressing area of the server.
This considerably simplifies software development and results in an unbeatable performance in certain scenarios. In our projects with Caché, we have only had the best experiences.
Orbit For many years, tarent GmbH has been developing software solutions for the detecon subsidiary Orbit Gesellschaft für Applikations- und Informationssysteme mbH. On the commission of Orbit GmbH, we deal with customers like the Bauen Agrar Umwelt industrial trade union. In this case, we created and manage an application for the operation of the call center.
On this year's Cebit, tarent presents two solutions that show the whole bandwidth of our Java architectures. In connection with a mobile solution for the use in radio patrol cars, we show modern security functions on a N800 Internet Tablet. At a second exhibition stand, our solution for the process handling in the context of the topic D-115 can be seen.
Within a project to equip radion patrol cars of the police Brandenburg with an integrated IT-solution, the tarent has developed a central control unit for IT-equipment of the patrol cars of the police Brandenburg. This solution is currently tested in 20 patrol cars. The central control unit coordinates and overlooks different systems of the patrol car and is able to switch them on and off, seperately, to read data, to transmit those via digital radio connection, as well as to display the system's status. All functions can be operated out of the cockpit via the touchscreen. The hardware basis is Nokia's internet tablet N800.The individual software solution is a Java application that is based on the Jalimo Project that is leaded by the tarent.
The overall project is supervised by T-Systems; We are one of the technology partners. It can be examined on the exhibition stand of the Zentraldienst der Polizei Brandenburg (ZDPol Brandenburg).
In the intensive collaboration with T-Systems, a solution's scenario for the federal state's and local authority area's needs within the context of D-115, the unitary authority telephone number, has been created. The presented solution offers a continous concept to realize a process handling system for D-115 out of one hand.
The tarent GmbH's contribution is a Business Process Management System (BPM), by which the administration's processes, and interactions between citizens and administrative bodies can run. A feature: The processes are already today modelled with the current BPEL 2.0 standard, the leading description language for processes. The underlying process environment ActiveBPEL is in used within the leading Process Management Systems. Business Process Management is one of the tarent's technological core topics. T-Systems presents the collective solution in hall 26 on the exhibition stand A01.
We are looking forward to your interest in the presented solutions and are with our colleagues at your disposal on-location for your questions, as well as agreed meetings. Please contact us with all concerns in relation of our presence on the Cebit 2008 and the technologies and solutions that are presented by the tarent via cebit@tarent.de

Allthough they signed the prohibitive injunction, the SCO Group GmbH published again comments that are bad for business on their website - and needed to take them back right away.
In November 2007 the old allegation could be read on https://sco.de, that linux was said to illegally seize the SCO's intellectual property and that the commercial usage of linux would make licensing by SCO neccessary. But the Landgericht München I forbade the SCO to claim these untrue and unprooved allegations in august 2003. At that time, a fine of 10.000,- Euro had been imposed against the SCO and the company had signed a prohibitive injunction.
This makes it even more astonishing, that SCO spreads again untruths about alledgedly intellectual property and licensing rights despite of the binding cease and desist declaration. The reaction came prompt: On 7 november 2007, our attorny Dr. Till Jaeger warned the SCO to stop these untrue and bad for business statements. And behold: Already one day later, the statements have been erased from the SCO's website. Through their attornies, the SCO declared again to put a stop to the statements that users of Linux could be hold responsible for segmentation faults of intellectual property by the SCO.
Gerd Jan Tschöpe, spokesperson of the tarent GmbH, "SCO tries again to do business with the fear by spreading untruths at the expense of third parties. The prompt taking back of the statement on the SCO's website and the latest cease and desist declaration are showing that this is more a nervous reflex than an elaborate action.
But neither the companies that develop innovative software in the GNU/Linux field, nor the constantly increasing number of their customers are awed by this. GNU/Linux is and will stay free software. One is quite right to trust in that. If SCO had put their creative potential in the development of technology instead of claiming the ideas of others their own property, they still would have been on the market."

tarent letter to SCO (informal translation)
Munich, 7th of November 2007
Dear Mr. Olson,
In the above referenced matter, we inform you that we are legal counsel for the Tarent GmbH, [address redacted]. Attached to this letter is a copy of a power of attorney [Vollmacht] to our name.
As you may know, our client obtaind a preliminary injunction at the [Landgericht (court of the state)] Munich I on June 4, 2003 against The SCO Group GmbH, in which you were enjoined from making the following claims in the course of business:
1. that the software "Linux" contains wrongfully obtained intellectual property of SCO's.
[pg 2]
2. that end users of "Linux" can be made liable for violations of SCO's intellectual property, and/or
3. that the software "Linux" is an unauthorised derivative of UNIX,
as long as this is not proven by you to be true.
In a letter dated July 2, 2003 our client stated that they waived rights from this preliminary injunction, except rights from the decision on fees, because you made a declaration of cease and desist [Unterlassung] to a third party to the Linuxtag e.V..
Today, our client noticed that you make the claims we object to [beanstandet] again on your website. The following text can be obtained on the Website https://www.sco.de/scosource/letter_to_partners.html :
"As we have progressed in our discovery related to this action, SCO has found compelling evidence that the Linux operating system contains unauthorized SCO UNIX intellectual property (IP)."
it is stated further on the website,
"if a customer refuses to compensate SCO for its UNIX intellectual property found in Linux by purchasing a license, then SCO may consider litigation."
and
"All commercial users of any version of Linux need a SCO IP License."
[pg 3.]
These claims are identical to the statements which were online on your website before and which were subject to a preliminary injunction in the year 2003.
Our client develops among other things software for the operating system GNU/Linux and is offering services in this sector of the market. The focus of its development are databases, desktop, and web applications for companies and governmental offices. In connection with consulting services and quality management, our client offers a full service in the business sector for the operating system GNU/Linux.
The mentioned claims and public statements have had tremendously negative effects on the business of our client. Your claims defer customers of our client from continuing the usage of the software Linux and therefor also from asking for the services our client offers in the sector of software development for GNU/Linux. Your actions are considered to be a "Anschwärzung" [slander] as defined by 4 Nr. 8 UWG (Gesetz gegen den Unlauteren Wettbewerb - unfair competition act) and are [wettbewerbswidrig], as long as you can't prove these statements to be true. Also, these claims violate 4 Nr. 10 when it comes to preventing revenue [ and disruption of business. It does not matter whether you have done these things [wettbewerbswidrigen] intentionally or not. After the order enjoining such statements [enforcement procedures] in the year 2003, you should have taken any necessary measures to prevent your website from presenting the forbidden statements again. As CEO you are also personally liable for the anticompetitive action.
There is reason to suspect the danger of repetition of these actions, as they have happened before. This danger of repetition can only be removed outside court by you signing a declaration to cease and desist which is properly agreeing to the penalty for any failure to abide.
[pg. 4] We have attached a declaration of cease and desist and ask you to sign this so as to make it legally binding and send it back to us. A determined penalty of 20.000 EUR can be explained by the fact that the money penalty of 10.000 did not prevent you from further violations and therefore a higher penalty amount is necessary to prevent any further repetition.
You have until the deadline of Monday, November 12, 2007, 12 o'clock to sign the required declaration or alternatively to bring proof of the claimed facts. Sending it by fax is fine, as long as the original will be sent by mail afterwards immediately.
Additionally, you have the obligation to cover our legal fees according to Section 12 paragraph 1, sentence 2 UWG. We ask you to confirm this obligation by signing the declaration of cease and desist within the deadline set.
In case the declaration of cease and desist does not arrive, or proof is not presented, by the deadline in the alternative, we will advise our client to go to court immediately and without any further notice.

The federal office for environment and conservation (BfN) runs the database LEPIDAT to analyse the habitat and the danger threat of butterflies.
With the constant damage of the environment, more and more butterfly species are urgently threatened in Germany. To face this danger threat a profound knowledge about the species and their bounding to specific plants and habitats is important. The tarent GmbH could support the BfN in this important matter in completing the implementation of this complex application as well as in putting it into service successfully.
The BfN plans to make LEPIDAT accessable via internet, soon. The butterfly database LEPIDAT is a pilot project for a planned general animal database FAUNADAT.
Further information about the protection of butterflies and about LEPIDAT can be found under FloraWeb.

In this case, we created and manage an application for the operation of the call center.
tarent-contact, the contact managementsolution of the tarent GmbH for high-quality use cases will be used in the Bundesumweltministerium.
The tarent stood outagainst other solutions as a result of the special suitability of their solution for the work in the communication field. tarnet-contact is already successfully in use in ceveral authorities, industrial enterprises and insurance companies.

We think: Education needs to be fair for both sides. We expect comitted employees as well as motivated people who start their job. But we think: Work needs to be payed appropiately from the first day on. We observe with concern that a "grey work market" of interns and trainees arose. Due to that we support the work of fairworks e. V. - an initiative against the systematical exploiting intern economy.

Mobile robots show their skills.
On a Lego-chassis the mobile end-device storms forward and, after a short consideration, moves the yellow tennis ball to his equally constructed opponent with the strategical better position -and: goal! A surprising and pleasurable sight in the exhibition halls of the LinuxTag. But where is the connection to business process management.
The football playing Jalimo-robot is a project to show the visitors of the LinuxTag the activities of the tarent company for software development and it-consulting. Recently, the tarent established the open source initiative called Jalimo (Java Linux Mobile) in which context high-quality java-applications are created on linux-based mobile end-devices.
The company that is located in Bonn develops platform independent solutions for complex business and administration processes.
"What is possible with our platform and the standard application?" That is the question that the developers wanted to answer in an illustrative way and let their playful and technological ambitions run wild.
The result was a mobile robot because it presents complex process structures in a very good way. The Jalimo robots were created by using a N800 internet tablet from the tarent's business associate (since 2006) Nokia, a Lego mindstorms construction kit as well as sound and ultrasound sensors. They can communicate with each other, solve problems and play football - due to intelligent problem solutions, that let communicate all components with each other and that use the potentials of networking to a maximum.
What looks that playful is in reality way more than the typical idea of someone who is constantly fiddling with something. It is the exact image of the developement solution strategy of the tarent GmbH. In more than ten years of effective methods, the company creates made-to-measure customersolutions on open platforms. Their commonly useable results are themselves free software and are constantly added to the growing lixid platform, that is the basis for all solutions of tarent. "The open source business is about konwledge efficiency and about using the technological potentials to a maximum by networking and communicating." says Boris Esser, manager of the tarent GmbH. Or, like Aristotle already detected: The whole is more than the sum of its parts. When you know how to do it right.
Within the series of lectures on the LinuxTag in Berlin, Sebastian Mancke and Michael Kleinhenz will both give lectures about java on linux based mobile end devices and about enterprise workflow management with BPEL.
On an extra area on the LinuxTag, the jalimobs are shown and are developed further in an open workshop.
Additionally, the jalimob can be seen in action on [www.youtube-jalimob.de].
