The word "free" has two meanings: it can mean both "free of limitations" and "free of cost." In the case of Free Software, the adjective "free" is used in the sense of "freedom." Richard Stallman, the founder of the Free Software movement, made the following differentiation: “Free as in ‘freedom’, not as in ‘free beer’.”
