Freeware designates software that the creator makes available for use free of cost. The source code, on the other hand, is not necessarily provided; that is, others may not change the program or adapt it to their own needs. Distribution for pay can thus be prohibited or only private use is free; that is, commercial use requires a licensing fee. "Freeware" is thus not "Free Software."
